Isaac turned four on April Fool's Day. We celebrated with a party at my parents house. Dave's parents came to town, which was a treat for Isaac. In Isaac's version of "These are a Few of my Favorite Things," I am sure at the top of the list would be all his wonderful grandparents. He and Sam are so lucky to have such fun, energetic, and loving grandparents on both sides.
Isaac is such an adorable little boy. He has plenty of feisty moments, and still throws an occasional tantrum (occasional in our house still means several per week ;) He is sooo affectionate and tells us he loves us a minimum of 25 times per day (seriously, it's quite sweet!) He remains very stubborn, and if he discovers he is wrong about something, he finds a way to justify it, or just flat out not acknowledge it. I maintain that he comes from a long line of stubborn personalities on all sides of his family :) He is still in love with Sam and has taken ownership over him when we are out in public. At home he is referred to as our family's baby. Since Sam is getting more interactive, Isaac has started playing with him more and more. I can't wait to see their relationship blossom even more as Sam grows older.
He's learned a lot at school, and seems to retain everything that his mighty little brain hears. He loves his teacher, Miss Luci. She always writes notes about what they do each day, and what centers they enjoy. His favorite center is usually "dramatic play." Lately he has been playing house with a little girl named Elsa who is his "husband." hehehe. He knows all his letters and sounds, but has shown ZERO interest in putting those sounds together to read words. He gets very impatient when I try, so I have not pushed it at all. I figure he is right where he needs to be and don't want him to see reading as a chore, or dislike it because I push it too early. I'm sure he'll come around.
I have unfortunately been a real slack with writing down the awesome/hilarious things he says. But here are a few gems that he has said lately, and a few that I have pilfered off of my Facebook status updates over the last several weeks.
- He was having a tantrum awhile ago and it was pretty epic. When he finally calmed down, he did not want to admit that he had a tantrum over nothing, so he told us that he was crying because he loves me too much.
- "mom, did you know that two billion mice die each day, and probably 7 rhinos die each day?"
- "Dad, why do black holes eat everything?"
- He has this stuffed animal lobster that he calls "Frank." The other day he was looking at the tiny tag attached to Frank and he said "mom, how did Frank get attached to this tag?" I found it cute because through an adults eyes, the tag is attached to Frank. Semantics :)
- Isaac's school had a fundraiser, called the Art Gala. They had a little bio beneath each kid's piece of art. At the end of Isaac's, it said "Isaac wants to be a helicopter driver who chases orange dinosaurs and captures them with a net while driving." That's my boy!
- Isaac: mom, I look hot.
Me: trying to stifle my chuckles - Isaac, do you even know what that means?
Isaac: Yes, it means you are so handsome and strong that you don't even need a girlfriend.
- "Mom, I am gonna teach Sam about falling in love, like I fell in love with you and dad."
- "When me and Sam are grown up, we are gonna have THREE dad's in our family! We will have one mom, and two dogs."
- "Mom, I love you all the way up to the moon, the sun, and Mars and Jupiter and Pluto, the sometimes planet."
- At the store, seeing a little girl throw a tantrum. "Mom, that girl is being unobedient! Why does she want to be so unobediant, it's unrespectful"
And now, a few photos of the last couple months around these parts...

 |
| His favorite present...a real angry birds set up by Dave. Dave found all the angry birds online, then a catapult, and a bucket of blocks. He was in heaven. |
 |
| Checkin' out some birthday presents at Nana and Pa's house. Everyone spoiled him. He got some awesome stuff! |
 |
| This is Isaac making a wish ;-) He wanted an "orange brachiosaurus that eats meat" cake, so that's what Babsi made! He loved it. |
 |
| Nate gave Isaac some of his childhood things, including this stuffed dog, "pancake." I remember Pancake from when we were kids. |
 |
| Haha, poser. Dave made this Pig pinata for Isaac to take to school and break with his friends for his birthday. He loved it. |
 |
| And finally these three pictures are some of the cards my students made me for my birthday. I love this one...we'd been learning about different polygons, and how the first part of their names gives us a hint for how many sides the polygon has (ex: pentagon. pent = 5.) The inside is full of polygon shaped people, also! Love those kiddos. |
