Above: I decided to let Isaac do whatever he wanted on his birthday. What did he choose? Well, duh, obviously playing in the forbidden dog water. He was in heaven.
Better late than never, right?
Instead of Isaac's birthDAY, I am going to post photos of his birthWEEK. We had lots of fun that week. Dave and I both had spring break on the days surrounding Isaac's birthday, which made it very nice. We were both able to spend a lot of quality time with him doing many fun activities, a few of which we snapped on the good ole camera!
Isaac has absolutely changed our lives in so many ways. It's funny, because I used to think I led a relatively busy life BEFORE the kiddo, but now I wonder what ate up all of my time?
Isaac has changed (obviously) so much over the course of his first year. His personality is in full bloom. Some words to describe his personality?
Determined, joyous, stubborn, imaginative, playful, inquisitive, fast!, vibrant, energetic, loving, hilarious and just plain happy.
His imagination is also full throttle. He likes to pretend like everything is alive, and give it a noise. He will crash rocks together and make crashing noises as they hit. He imitates animal noises as he plays with stuffed animals and toys. He LOVES trucks. I must say, we are raising a gender neutral child, not trying to push all boy things, but so far, he is ALL BOY (except for that little white bear with a pink bow in it's hair that he cuddles..hehe.)
Before he even had any toy cars, trucks, etc, he started to get so excited when he would see big trucks, tractors, etc, that he would start shaking. He excitedly points out and yells "truck!" (more like "chrk".) Holladay Water Company is right behind our house, and occasionally, you see a tractor driving around back there. If he hears what even MIGHT be that tractor, he nearly has a seizure he's so excited. On the same note, he also likes to play with dirt, rocks and make many growling noises when he plays with imaginative toys. Boy oh BOY.
Isaac hasn't ever been a big cuddler, because he is so busy. He'll sit in your lap contentedly for a while, but unless he is sleeping he doesn't have time for laying his head on your shoulder and just cuddling. Recently, though, he has been a bit more cuddly. In the morning he likes to come to our bed and go between Dave and I, laying his head on each of us for a few minutes, until he hears the first noises of the morning. At this point, he will ask "whatta?" repeatedly as we tell him what each creak and grumble is.
Isaac's still not walking, but he gets around quite fast crawling and moving along furniture. He is picking up a couple new words each week as of late, and uses them frequently after he learns them. My favorite is "button." He tries to find buttons on our clothes, so that he can point them out and say it.
He also LOVES LOVES LOVES Abbie ("Bee") and Day-Z (dayee) That's the second thing he does in the morning. He starts calling for Abbie and Day-z immediately after he realizes they aren't downstairs. I think he cuddles with Abbie more than he does with us. He'll crawl up to her and lay his head on her. It's ADORABLE.
He LOVES the Curious George soundtrack, and dancing to it. My mom got him hooked, and it's his favorite thing to listen and dance to.
Isaac is just about the most sociable baby I have met. He flirts with and engages people where ever we go, and loves to get reactions from others about his cuteness, and most recently, he engages people in laughing at his antics. He's a little monkey.
Some of Isaac's favorite past times? Speeding to the dog water and putting his hands in, elbow deep, while simultaneously soaking his clothes and toys, reading books (okay, LISTENING and pointing as someone else reads him a book,) picking up the most minuscule objects to either a) taste or b) carry around in his fists for hours He also enjoys "scaring" Abbie and Day-Z with a "boo!" then laughing maniacally about it, he loves anything outdoors, swimming, walks, park, other kids, animals, and one of his main passions is touching every square inch of the house with grimy hands, ensuring he has left his mark.
I really could go on, and on and on, but this is will have to do for now.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAAC! We love you and are so very thankful for your presence in our lives. :)
Also, does anyone have any good tips for posting video? I have tried on multiple occasions and it always takes FOREVER, then eventually is says "blogger failed." Are my files to big? My connection too slow? Or is it Blogger, not me? I am hoping the latter, since I like to think I am competent in all things computer. hehe Go to facebook to see a good birthday video.

Above: We took Isaac on a "H20 Splash" Easter Egg hunt. He was GOOD. One of the rules was that parents couldn't grab the eggs. He got 13 eggs in less than five minutes on his own (well, Dave carried him in the pool, but he grabbed and bagged all of his eggs!)

Birthday Weekend to the park! He's already begun working on the eye roll.

and the scowl is steadily being perfected.

Slides are all the rage.

Not the best photo, but at least we have some evidence that I was present during the week of festivities. How is it moms rarely make it into the photos? hmmm....

Isaac spending a little quality time with uncle Drew on his b'day.

Just because...
And now, the cake sequence. Much better live.

The "I ate so much cake" face. No worries! My mom is awesome - she made this cake from scratch and it's totally sweetened with fruit and wholesome ingredients, same with the icing. She's a talented lady, that Margaret!

First Truck!

Andrew's dog "Gramps," helping Isaac open his gifts. Seriously, this dog will open an entire wrapped gift, leaving the contents unscathed, it's hilarious.

Isaac and "Nana Nutmeg." He got the Lorax stuffed animal and LOVES this thing. He cuddles with it daily.

Opening a gift with "Pa" and My dad's gift to Isaac - semi-homemade. :)
